Lunch: “2030: Technology that will change the world”

cover

Hub member Fred Teunissen invited Bram Vermeer to The Hub to join us for lunch and share insights from his new book.

Bram Vermeer is journalist and co-author of the book “2030: Technology that will change the world”. This book deals with the technological causes of global crises. It gives an overview of innovative technologies that address the social problems of the next twenty years.

Humanity is increasingly confronted with crises that, for the first time in our history, are genuinely global in scope. The food shortages we saw in 2007 occurred simultaneously in Asia, Africa and South America; the recession that took hold in 2008 did so simultaneously worldwide. Climate change and oil depletion are no less global challenges that we will face in the decades ahead.

The globalization of disaster is rooted in our technology: generations of engineers have steadily woven an international web of industries, communications and markets that has resulted in planetary interdependence. Fresh understanding of the regularities underlying complex systems offers us a new perspective on sustainability, stability and crisis-prevention methods: a new way of looking forward that can help us identify key issues for 2030.

Come listen, and join the discussion with Bram Vermeer.
